David Calder is a four-time Olympic athlete, who came home with a silver medal from the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He has been rowing for over 20 years, and won many both National and World Championship titles, as well as three World Cup medals. David has worked for the provincial government in various capacities, and was a Special Advisor and liaison to the Canadian Olympic Committee. He is a volunteer on the BC Games Society Board and the Rowing BC Board. David continues to visit schools (from elementary to college level) to talk about rowing, teamwork, and the opportunities and advantages that can come from participating in sports. Currently, he is rowing coach and facility manager at Gorge Narrows Rowing Club. David has revitalized rowing on the Gorge and brought together various organizations in an effort to improve water safety and sports for all Waterway users, while mentoring a team of volunteers to bring rowing as a community sport to a wide range of audiences.
